It is a great impact on the Hong Kong citizens with their daily lives due to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic in Hong Kong, which is in the 3rd wave at the moment.
The Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Hong Kong interviewed more than 11,000 people, with the statistic that about 70% of the respondents had symptoms of depression, which is significantly high.
The repeated epidemics can easily lead to negative emotions, and even more likely to appear hypochondria.
Frequent follow-up of the epidemic information, and fear of going to the places where there is a confirmed case reached before, are the extreme manifestation of hypochondriacal disorder. They will constantly search for the latest news about the epidemic, such as which bus routes with confirmed cases, whether shopping malls are safe, and so on.
Have these situations ever happened to you, or your relatives or friends?
Dr Doris Chan is invited for an interview in TVB Jade programme “Big City Shop”. “Hypochondriacal Disorder” is introduced in the programme.
