How can I cope with work stress?

Dear Dr. Chan,
I have huge work stress. I think I have serious mental problems due to the pressure of work and my boss.  I realized that I might be sick because I tried to hurt myself a few days ago, thinking that it might be the best way to avoid going back to work.  Also, physically I am feeling sick and the doctors cannot find out the cause.
I was referred by a friend who highly recommended you.  So I am writing to ask if I can make an appointment with you. Please let me know how to make appointment with you and what I should do before seeing you.
Thank you.

Thank you for writing to me. Living in big city like HK is very stressful. It is quite common to feel stressed and develop anxiety or depressive  symptoms. If leave it untreated, it become worse with time and you will find lots of physical “symptoms” without underlying cause. It is understandable that you might tried to hurt yourself, which may be a way to escape from the stress; however, it is obviously not the best way to manage. A good way of managing stress including both medication and non-medication means. There are many medications which can relieve the above symptoms. Medications including SSRI, anxiolytic medications and minor tranquilizers etc.  Non- pharmacological means including psychological treatment, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness or hypnosis, depending on the need.
Please kindly call my clinic assistant @ 23108918 to book an appointment.
Thank you for your kind attention
Dr. Chan
